It was a dark and stormy day…no really, it was…and it
had been raining fairly steadily too for several days. Finally I got a break
(such as it was) and got out to Long Hunter State Park to take a stroll on their day
loop, which is a very nice walk through the cedars along the shores of
…like this. There were some long walks to
bypass flooded trails.
Yes, it was nasty outside, but I dig this
sort of weather, and when I saw the snow coming, I rejoiced…
Snow on mah
beard! That officially makes this a great day!
Yes, it was terribly wet, but with
everything so green and verdant, it’s hard to be displeased. While there is no
single “signature” sight at Long Hunter as there are at other Tennessee State
Parks, it’s a worthwhile destination nonetheless for being a sea of calm in an
otherwise frenzied city, much like Radnor Lake.
The day loop trail is not long, a little
over four miles, and not too tough, but the wet (and cold!) conditions made
things more interesting!
Things go from bad to worse as the trail
goes underwater!
Even the sinkholes were full to the brim!
A conveniently located kiosk at the
junction to the Volunteer Trail shows the trail routes. The Volunteer Trail
continues to an overnight camping area that is big with the scouts.
At the kiosk I found this bug, or perhaps
it’s just a bug-husk. I didn’t touch it at any rate, but it did make for a nice
picture. Meanwhile, I was now cold enough to bundle up a bit more warmly!
Now this, this is definitely a wall, not
like the pile of stone on the trail at John Noel SNA. I still don’t know who
put it there or what it was for, but it’s certainly a man-made construct.
